Anxiety

Do you feel anxious more than you would like?

It’s perfectly normal to feel anxious in situations which need caution, your body is working to protect you but when your body is reacting or over-reacting, in a situation when it doesn’t need to, then your survival ‘fight and flight’ mechanism is working too well and you probably have a problem.

Much of the time you may be very well aware of the reasons behind your feelings of anxiety while at other times you may be feeling symptoms of anxiety and not recognise consciously, exactly why that might be. Perhaps your inability, for whatever reason, to change an unhealthy situation/relationship may be the reason.

Your body and mind are inter-linked, your thought process is contolling your body’s reaction and your body is releasing certain hormones like epinephrine which in turn causes all the associated symptoms. Anxiety disorders are caused by an over-reaction of the body’s defence systems.

Although you are not in reality, in mortal danger, your body can react as if you are,and if that reaction beomes very acute then you may have a “panic attack” The symptoms of panic can be very frighening, you feel out of control, you may even in extreme cases, feel so ill that you think that are having a heart attack and yet you are not in fact, in real danger.
